Internal Organization for Standardization (ISO)
International Organization for Standardization – ISO is the organization dealing with the general standardization issues i.e. standardization in all fields excluding electrotechnics and telecommunications. ISO is composed of more than 150 national organizations for standardization having General Secretariat in Geneva. Professional work regarding standards adoption is achieved through Technical Committees (201) operating and there are more than 17000 valid standards and related documents in its database.
On July 01, 2007, the Institute for Standardization of Montenegro (ISME) joined ISO as Correspondent member. In accordance with the internal rules, ISME, as Correspondent member, is entitled to take part actively into the operating of ISO Technical Bodies, excluding voting right. The Institute for Standardization of Montenegro signed in to participate in two ISO political committees (COPOLCO - Committee on consumer policy and DEVCO - Committee on developing countries matters), as well as 17 Technical Committees such as:
TC 8 - Ships and marine technology
TC 34 - Food products
TC 37 - Terminology and other language and content resources
TC 44 - Welding and allied processes
TC 59 - Building construction
TC 68 - Financial services
TC 92 - Fire safety
TC 146 - Air quality
TC 147 - Water quality
TC 176 - Quality management and quality assurance
TC 181 - Safety of toys
TC 190 - Soil quality
TC 199 - Safety of machinery
TC 207 - Environmental management
TC 226 - Materials for the production of primary aluminium
TC 228 - Tourism and related services
TC 234 - Fisheries and aquaculture
Participation into the Technical Committees operating, inter alia, considers nominating Montenegrin representatives for the purpose of presenting and acting for national standpoints in case of international standards adoption. Further development of the Institute’s Technical Bodies structure i.e. national Technical Committees, would gradually review and renominate ISO Technical Committees, according to the national needs.
The Institute for Standardization of Montenegro, as ISO member, has the possibility to access the entire ISO standards and related documents database. Therefore, it is created the assumption for adopting ISO standards, being of the very interest for Montenegro, as national ones. Our users also have the opportunity to take insight into the very text of ISO standards and subject to their needs to buy it in hard copy. ISO standards prices are defined according to ISO official pricelist. The catalogue and pricelist are available at ISO web portal.
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)
International Electrotechnical Commission - IEC is the leading global organization that prepares and publishes international standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies. IEC is composed of more than 70 national electrotechnical committees, having General Secretariat in Geneva. Due to the administrative and other practical reasons, in great number of the countries (as in the case of Montenegro) national electrotechnical committees are also national organizations for standardization i.e. its integral part. There are more than 170 Technical Bodies working on adoption international standards in terms of various electrotechnical sections. More than 500 international standards in the field of electrotechnics are adopted annually. There are more than 6000 documents adopted as IEC standards and related documents.
On January 01, 2009, the Institute for Standardization of Montenegro joined IEC as Associate member. Our users also have the opportunity to take insight into the very text of ISO standards and subject to their needs to buy it.
As regards the Institute for Standardization of Montenegro, IEC membership means application precondition for the membership into European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization - CENELEC.
